Before you can create a menu for Holy Family Middle School you must first do some research. After some careful research you will be ready to help the Holy Family Middle School Cafeteria. Follow the steps below to get started!
Part 1
Research MyPyramid; each team will create one
PowerPoint presentation explaining each of the food categories. Answer the
following questions in your PowerPoint presentation and be sure to include
pictures!
1.
What
are the six categories on MyPyramid?
2.
Which
color on MyPyramid is used to represent each category?
3.
How
many ounces or cups of each category are recommended each day?
4.
Name at least three examples of foods from each category
5.
What
are the five healthiest categories?
6.
What
do the stairs represent?
Part 2
Each team
member will print out and individually complete the MyPyramid Worksheet found here: http://teamnutrition.usda.gov/resources/mpk_worksheet.pdf. In this worksheet you will examine
your food choices and activity levels. After looking at your eating
habits you can make suggestions for healthier options.
If you need help filling out the
worksheet, the following link may help you: http://www.mypyramid.gov/pyramid/index.html (tip: click on each part of the
pyramid for more information on that food category)
Part 3
You are
ready to plan a menu! Now that you understand MyPyramid and are able to make smart food choices,
help the Holy Family Middle School cafeteria workers to plan a healthier lunch
menu. Work with your team to:
1.
Plan
a menu for three school days which includes a main course, two side dishes and
a dessert
2.
Follow
the MyPyramid guidelines to make sure you are providing
healthy, well balanced meals
3.
Make
sure that all of the food groups have been represented and that each meal is
working towards meeting the recommend serving size for each day.
4. Color code the foods on your menu to
match the colors of MyPyramid
